and Sunday. Depart on Saturday and visit Rincón de la Vieja, a volcano
surrounded by dry, tropical forests with hiking trails where students are
able to see the boiling mud pools along the volcano base. After the hike
swim in the natural water pools at the entrance of the park. Spend the
evening in Liberia. On Sunday visit the Santa Rosa National Park, classified
as a dry forest, this is the first national park in Costa Rica, and offers
a selection of hiking trails within the forest.

addition to over 250 species of birds, animals seen in the reserve include:
deer, anteaters, over 50 species of bats and 3 species of monkeys. Within
the park is "La Casona", a museum rich with historical importance;
it was here where Costa Rica defended her independence against the North
American colonizer, William Walker.
